Ugli?! What do you mean ugli?!

We're here again today to try a new fruit!  Today's fruit is an ugli fruit, and I found it at Hy-Vee for $1.99.  Kaitlyn and I have both never had one and never heard of one.  Let the adventure begin!

The ugli fruit lives up to it's name (meaning it's ugly....wordplay)

The peel-Kaitlyn says the peel is really thick and squishy and she's peeling it like an orange.  And it is crazy thick, like twice the thickness of an orange peel.  Before we started peeling the fruit itself was kind of squishy, which could mean it's not good anymore but since we don't know the difference we're going ahead with the plan.  Once the peel is all gone, the fruit part looks like a weird shaped hat!

This hat is kind of what the fruit part looks like!  Festive.

Kaitlyn said she can put her fingers all the way through, like a donut!  Fruit donut!  (Last line meant to be sung).

The fruit breaks into wedges that look like an orange.  It smells mildly citrus-y, kind of the way citrus air fresheners smell.

Taleen's assessment:  "The skin is super hard to bite through, so it mostly just gets squeezed by your teeth.  It's really juicy and tastes incredibly tart, so that your eyes squint up and you make a weird face."

Kaitlyn's assessment:  "It has a very tart taste to begin with, and then gets to be very bland, but after sucking on some of the juice, I think it would make a good juice."

There it is masses, our awesome review of the ugli fruit.  Try it for yourselves!  Make it into juice and tell us if it's awesome!  Make your friends try it to see their faces scrunch up weird then mock them wildly.
