But since I do get a fair number of rejection letters, I thought it would only be fair for me to critique some of them. Let us analyze one now.
Letter from Unnamed Government Agency*:
Tuesday, August 24, 2010
Dear Taleen Brady,
Your application was carefully considered for the Program Specialist (Organizational Psychology/Development), announcement number NE#10-303. However, you were not selected for this position.
Thank you for your interest in the Unnamed Government Agency Care System.
Sincerely Yours,
Anonymous Hobo
Human Resources Officer
What's wrong with this? Everything. That's the correct answer. First off, they list the announcement number. As if any human being remembers that. Secondly, I highly doubt they considered me all that carefully if they didn't even have the decency to write more than three sentences to reject me. And finally, this sentence: "However, you were not selected for the position.
David Blaine. Have you ever seen a sentence that is more rude than that? Of course you have. But you have to admit, that's still a pretty rude sentence. That sentence is just as bad as this celebration sign.
Stating the obvious is neither festive nor fun
*I changed the name of the organization so that nobody comes to attack me in my sleep.
