This is what high school is really about

The high school that I work at recently made it to boys state basketball, and played in the semi-final game last night.  I'm happy to report that they won (final shot, at the buzzer, intense!) and will be playing in the championship game.

I realize that seems super boring to people who aren't in high school (including myself), but this is the backdrop for today's post. 

While subbing yesterday the kids were nearly bouncing off the walls because they were so excited about the game.  And even though I was mildly frustrated that they weren't taking the notes they were supposed to, I couldn't help but smile at their joy.  For every teacher I hear complaining about schedule changes, and kids missing class, I just sit and think about how these are the moments that the kids will really remember about high school.  Plus, I like seeing them get so passionate about something positive.  And it's funny hear what outfits they're going to wear.
