The other day while at the local ice rink, I saw a family with two little girls eating dinner. One girl was about 2 and had the cutest bundle of blond curls that almost looked like it had a little receding hairline to it. You know, how baby hair sometimes grows in funny (or in my case, doesn't show up until you're 3) and looks adorable. I told the mom that the girls were "so cute" and then told the 2 year old that I loved her hair. Not wanting the 5 year old to feel left out, I turned to her and said, "Your hair is really pretty, too!" Then she responded with what is perhaps the best answer I have ever heard after giving someone a compliment.
"Smell it!"
She wanted me to smell her hair. I hesitated for a moment because I wasn't sure what to do, then just said "Ok" and walked around the table to smell the girl's hair. And it did smell really good. I asked her what kind of shampoo she used and her mom explained that it had just been cut that day, so it was the fancy smelling salon shampoo that the girl was showing off. I love that this girl was confident enough to show off her hair to any and everyone that'll listen. Keep it up, girly! Great hair, and great hair confidence, really should start this early.
