Cyclones you make me proud

One of the greatest things about living in Korea at the current time is seeing Gangnam Style take off.  If you do not know what Gangnam Style is then I don't understand how you are on the internet.  But I will explain it anyways.  Gangnam Style is a song by a South Korean rapper.  It comes with a crazy music video, a catchy beat, and a cool dance.  It's basically just nothing but fun times and it's gone completely viral.

My students ask me on a regular basis if I know about Gangnam Style (obviously yes kids, I live in Korea) and if people in America listen to it.  When I tell them that American do in fact listen to Gangnam Style they are always so excited.  One girl even said, "I'm so proud of Korea!"  It's a country that doesn't get a ton of publicity so to have a hit international song feels like a big deal to everyone.

This week my friend Tyler sent me two videos that absolutely made my day because they combined my love of home and Korea.  They are of my beloved Iowa State University Cyclone Football Varsity Marching Band playing Gangnam Style.  It's so fun!  I showed it to my students and they were amazed.  Please watch and enjoy.  Hopefully it'll make you smile the way it made me smile!  Go Cyclones!!!

  1. I think this was at the Texas Tech game, your mom and I were there. In fact I think we might have been up on the balcony at the alumni building for the first video.

  2. Thanks for the links, Taleen. Those were fun. You can tell your students that Gangnam Style has pretty much overrun the U.S. It's on the radio and it's played in clubs and it's been remixed with English lyrics, and Psy was on the Today Show (I think it was the Today Show). Here's a link to another video you might enjoy. I started laughing as soon as it started playing. I don't know where the house is, but if Koreans don't celebrate Halloween, you can also explain that.

  3. I swear the girl who walked in front of the camera around the 0:44 mark of the second video looked just like Alissa Brady!
