I have to confess something. I have this issue with technology, where unless I am provided with what I consider to be near perfection, I refuse to use it. This is why I don't have a DVR. I want to be able to record whatever I want, from anywhere I want, and then watch it from any TV I own, with no restrictions. Not possible.
I also want all of my music to be free all the time. I own an ipod, but only because it was given to me by a friend who eventually grew disgusted with how uncool I looked. I have never downloaded music from it because a) itunes annoys me for some reason I can't fully explain and b) I hate paying for music. I'm not sure if it's because I listen to the radio for free or what, but I just don't like paying $1.39 for a song. It feels wrong to me. And because of this, the large majority of my music comes from burned CDs given to me by friends. Yes, I am living in 2002, and no, I am not ashamed.
But all of this is changing now. I'm getting my own music! And I'm still not paying for it. Are you a little afraid that I'm going to download illegal music like a boss? Don't be. I don't have the patience for that. Instead, I'm using one of the most crazily awesome resources here in the Sioux. It's the library! Not even kidding you.
I love the library because I love free things. And I love reading. So, I have been recently spending time on the library website trying to find books to read. When I was there, I started clicking on other links just to see what was happening and discovered the greatness that is free music. I also found a car repair directory but that's an experiment for another day.
I haven't tried the music service yet, but it's called Freegal. You're allowed to download a limited number of songs each week (the Sioux let's me download 2) and then you can do whatever you want with it! Put it in itunes, burn a CD, listen to it non-stop until your family threatens to punch you if you don't quit playing it, whatever works for you. How cool is this?! Library, you just get better and better.
