If I ever become a real author, I want you to be real with me about the photo

I read books.  Impressive, I know.  I have a few favorite authors whose books I absolutely adore and could read again and again and again.  And when I read their books, I feel like we're kindred spirits and best friends who would totally drink tea together while laughing about math jokes and Entourage.

Then I look at their photos.

It's not that the dream completely shatters.  It's just, they don't look like how I imagined they would.  I thought they would have a happy grin on their face that made them look like someone who gives out May Day baskets on a yearly basis.  But instead, they look like people who spend their days staring intently at hampsters and throwing mini erasers at children while sitting on a bench at the mall.  Let me demonstrate.

My question to these authors is, how is this the best possible photo of you?  Every single one of them looks scared or fake smiling.  Don't fake smile!  We're gonna hang out!  And hang outs require real smiling.

Please know that I still think these people are fantastic authors, I just question their photo choices.  All I ask is that if I ever become an author, you all provide real, honest input on which photo to use.  I don't want people thinking I'm sitting around at the mall all day.

Here's a bonus creep author pic that doesn't qualify for my concerns because I think it was intentionally weird.

Yep, there's no way he didn't know that people were gonna get freaked by this.
