More Crazy in Korea

Last time I wrote, I told you about my encounter with a crazy man in a train station.  Hopefully you enjoyed that.  Because today I'm going to tell you about more crazy people in Korea.

A few weeks ago after yoga, Rose and I decided to get ice cream.  Because that is the lifestyle I lead here.  We went to the convenience store and I immediately saw a billion of my students.  This is normal because I teach high school students and they generally just wander around town doing nothing productive most hours after 5:00 PM.  I said hi to them and then started looking at the ice cream selection.

All of a sudden a woman comes up to us and says, "Where are you from?!"  The woman was obviously Korean but her English was very good.  However, the rest of her was not so good.  She was disheveled and looked like someone who spends a lot of time with the soju bottle.  She welcomed us to Korea and kept asking us questions and telling us how bad Korea was.  It was weird!  The woman was older and most older Korean people don't speak a lot of English.

The whole time this is happening I am looking at my students with fear in my eyes.  They tell me that she's crazy and drinks a lot and then bolt from the store.  Some help they are.  I make my way to the counter to buy my ice cream, and as I'm digging in my bag for my wallet, Rose has her hand kissed by this woman.  Kissed!  Then the woman puts her own hand into Rose's face and Rose kisses the crazy's hand!  It's so terrifying to me still that I can barely type it.  We quickly paid for our food, took the weird dried sardines and cherry mints the crazy woman had given us, and bolted out of there.  Rose and I then disinfected her hand and she brushed her teeth.  Because who knows what diseases this woman has.

Further sightings of this woman have been made around town by other foreigners.  It seems that she just wanders town, drinks, and accosts foreigners in her free time.  An unusual hobby but at least she stays busy I guess.
