Today while the kids were supposed to be working on their math assignments, one kid turned around in his desk and uttered this question:
"Ms. Brady, can I go call Jimmy John's?"
I crinkled up my face with confustion and just stared at the kid with completely disbelief. Was he really asking to go order food?!!? After asking a few more follow up questions, I finally invited him to come back to talk to me.
He explained his situation as that he wanted Jimmy John's but didn't have time to pick it up before his track meet, so could he go to the office and call and have them deliver it. "Didn't you eat lunch?" I said. "Yea, but school lunch, come on...," was his response. I told him I eat the lunch every day and have no complaints. He he will be hungry by five so needed to eat again now. I continued to refuse. Finally, the boy accepted his fate and went back to his seat.
I did tell him during our conversation that this ranked right up there as one of the craziest questions a kid has ever asked me. He claimed it wasn't that crazy, but I still disagree. Who asks to have food delivered in the middle of school?!
