What did I eat you ask? I ate raw beef. Yep. Ate it. And now I will tell you how that opportunity came about.
A few weeks ago we had school festival in town (a very fun event, photos coming soon) and as I was walking back to school from the performance venue, I saw Mr. Ugh, one of my co-teachers, standing outside of a restaurant. I asked him what he was doing and he quickly ushered me inside. He told me that we were having a dinner with all of the teachers and that I must come and wait. So I did, even though I thought the dinner was the next day. Turns out that the dinner Mr. Ugh was talking about was just for the principal, vice-princiapl, and 3rd year teachers, a group of 8 men total. Plus me. Actually, I wasn't supposed to come to this, Mr. Ugh just thought it would be nice for me to come. I don't know why he thought this because in reality it was awkward and slightly uncomfortable for to be there but I powered through.
During the course of the meal we ate Korean barbeque and drank soju and beer. Pretty standard Korean meal. But then as time went on a dish was brought out that I had never seen before. Mr. Chul, my favorite co-teacher, told me it was very expensive so I had to eat it. He also told me it was raw beef. When I asked if it was safe to eat he said, "Of course!" I'm not sure if it really was or not but I didn't get sick afterwards so I'm sure it was fine. And although it was against every bit of knowledge I've ever been taught about raw beef, it didn't taste that bad. Just had a slightly strange texture.
This is basically what the raw beef looked like. Delicious, no?
