8:15am | Leave for school. Run into my principal on the way to school. Exchange a few words in Korea. Dread having to walk all the way down the hill with him.
8:45am | See another teacher get a milk and I don't get one even though I have ordered daily milks to be delivered to me. React with outrage. Spend 20 minutes checking my online banking to see if I've been charged for milk. After seeing that I have paid for milk, quietly seethe with rage against the student too lazy to check the milk list. Vow to get the milk that is rightly mine.
9:00am - 10:30am | Read dumb internet sites and do work in between. Watch two videos learning how to not say certain things in Korean. Send emails that people then respond to without answering my questions. Send more emails.
10:15am | Mr. Ugh asked how I find pop songs to listen to. I told him I use YouTube. He then began listening to Ke$ha in the office.
10:45am - 11:30am | Taught students using a One Direction song. Had students explain and translate the lunch menu for me from Korean to English. Let students watch this EXO song (mostly because I also wanted to watch this EXO song). When opening the browser, saw that Mr. Ugh had previously searched for Carly Rae Jepsen Call me Maybe. I begin to get concerned.
11:30am - 12:25pm | Taught another group of students using this same One Direction song. Allowed students to do a sing-a-long with the song. Also allowed students to watch the same EXO video and an APink video. Had students tell me which boy was the best during the EXO video. Realize I'm getting a bit lazy with my lessons because I just want to watch KPop with my students.
12:30pm - 1:30pm | Eat lunch. Rice, kimchi, soup with potatoes, some bean things I don't know the name of, and mini crayfish (I think that's what they're called). Also salad that was ruined with a weird dressing, mini hamburger patties in meat sauce, and a tortilla filled with sweet nuts and sugar. Spend the rest of lunch reading advice columns on the internet and thinking how much life isn't so bad compared to these people.
1:30pm - 2:30pm | More reading the internet. Spent minimal amounts of time lesson planning.
2:30pm | Four girls came in to talk to me about backpacks and tell me they are married, while laughing a lot. One was carrying milk. I got my hopes up that the milk was for me. I was wrong.
2:45pm | Study Korean while listening to KPop. The KPop does nothing for my studying, I just can't understand the words so it's not as distracting. A trick pointed out to me by my sister, Kaitlyn.
4:45pm | Milk delivery kid reappears. A teacher helps me confront him about my lack of milk. I am hopeful that I will receive my milk tomorrow.
5:00pm | Go home, get ready for yoga. Eat cheese and bread.
6:00pm | Do yoga with my younger brothers/friends. Conclude by listening to Enya in the dark while my friends drink tea and we all lay on the floor.
8:00pm | After showering, go purchase a cheese pizza to negate the benefits of yoga. Eat pizza while watching a totally legal copy of The Bling Ring. Then spend time on Wikipedia learning about The Bling Ring.
11:30pm | Go to sleep.
That's it, a super normal and super exciting day in the life of a Korean English teacher. I'm sure you totally wanted to know all of this. That's why I wrote about it. And if you're wondering if I ever got my milk, well here is your answer.
This is what victory looks like
